Title "Refugee 201" Conference
Dates March 21, 2003 to March 21, 2003
Synopsis Workshops will provide best practices addressing differences between American and refugee cultures.

Description As a state with rapidly changing demographics, it is important to focus on the best ways to work with America’s newcomers. The Colorado Refugee Network Council is a consortium of public and private agencies working together to successfully resettle refugees and other vulnerable populations. We have planned this conference to provide information and solutions to refugee issues, enabling all persons to better understand one another and to live and work side by side peacefully in our communities.

Special Guest Speakers:

Deborah Scroggins, Author, Emma’s War and a representative from the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees

Workshops will provide best practices addressing differences between American and refugee cultures. Issues included will be cultural barriers unique to refugees, the benefits of employing refugees, refugee mental health, and current immigration topics. Also, a panel of experts will be on hand to discuss the emerging refugee populations in Colorado.

Anyone interested in refugees or refugee issues is welcome to attend.
