Routine Screening for Domestic Violence in Pediatric Practice

This resource for health care providers is designed to help pediatricians and family practitioners better address domestic violence in their practices. It includes information about domestic violence, teen dating violence and child abuse, and testimonies from victims of abuse. Routine Screening for Domestic Violence examines the role health care providers can play in preventing family violence and supporting victims, and provides tips on screening patients for family violence during routine office visits. It describes how to conduct screening and includes sample screening questions. It also contains information on how to document abuse, prepare an office for domestic violence screening, and more. The appendix includes tools for health care providers including information on the cost of domestic violence to health plans and a list of intervention and prevention resources. Routine Screening for Domestic Violence was written by Howard S. King, MD, MPH and Melinda Strauss, ACSW, LICSW.
