Title HIV and Sexual Violence Against Women
Author Health Canada
Synopsis Sexual violence & HIV are major social & health problems that can affect the lives of all women.

Description The guide focuses on HIV and sexual violence in the context of women?s lives. It is important to acknowledge that children and men also experience sexual violence. Some of the issues addressed in the guide are also pertinent to children and men; however, it was beyond the scope of this document to address their unique needs.

While other resources related to HIV and sexual assault have been published in Canada, this resource is the first of its kind for counsellors that addresses the connections between HIV and many forms of sexual violence against women. Counsellors are encouraged to incorporate relevant information into their work, and organizations are encouraged to revise their policies and practices to include information related to HIV and sexual violence, with the ultimate goal of improving services to survivors of sexual violence.
