| Description | Deaf Abused Women¡¦s Network Job Announcement Executive Director Deaf Abused Women¡¦s Network (DAWN) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to increasing community consciousness about domestic violence and sexual assault in the Deaf community. DAWN works with survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault who are Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and DeafBlind in the Washington, DC metropolitan area by empowering survivors to become active participants in their healing processes. The Executive Director oversees the well-being of the organization by working in collaboration with other area organizations to minimize the gaps in service quality for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deaf-Blind survivors. The Executive Director pursues funding and adheres to the organization¡¦s strategic planning while promoting the implementation of innovative programs that meet the needs of the community. Roles of the Executive Director also include maintaining contact with area organizations and individuals, maintaining the organization¡¦s status as a professional and innovative organization, as well as overseeing the growth of the organization. We seek candidates with the following qualifications: « Possess in-depth understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and sexual assault as they pertain to the Deaf community « Two years or more of related experience with a demonstrated understanding and ability in the following areas: administration, fundraising in the form of charitable giving and grant-writing, and budget planning « One year employment experience in the Deaf community with a fluency in American Sign Language and an understanding of and openness to the variations and diversity within the community « Demonstrated ability to develop working relationships with external contacts and to maintain close relationships with them « Exhibits the following work styles and philosophies: - Inclination towards teamwork, open communication, valuing differences - High standards of professional ethics, quality of work, and objectives for services for survivors - Flexibility and ability to accommodate to changing needs of the organization and community - Excellent communication skills through verbal expression in sign language and written English and/or ability to make self understood to various populations - Strong organization skills, attention to detail, and ability to perform praxis analysis of past and future plans - Ability to prioritize, work on various projects simultaneously - Work with and advocate for clients when needed - Commitment to DAWN¡¦s philosophy of community engagement in the social problem of domestic violence and sexual assault and an increase in community cohesiveness against negative attitudes and ¡§isms¡¨ prevalent in society Contact Shira Grabelsky at info@deafdawn.org with ¡§ED Position¡¨ in the subject line.
