How can I search the CAVNET Knowledge Base

The newly designed CAVNET Knowledge Base uses simple yet incredibly powerful search engine technology to help you find exactly what you are looking for--- and will sort your search results so the most up-to-date information appears first on the list. Our search engine carefully looks through the titles, synopses, descriptions, author names, and even names of hypertext links of every scrap of information fed into the CAVNET Knowledge Base, so you will never lose track of what you're after. Our unique document identification numbers will allow you to quickly locate and share your information by simply noting the number of the document in which you are interested.

In addition to basic searches, you can take advantage of some of the following powerful search techniques to refine your search.

Word If you want to find a particular word (e.g. an author's name), just put it in and search for it.
Phrase If you want to find a phrase, just put it in surrounded by quotation marks. For instance,

"domestic violence"

will find that phrase--- not documents containg only one of the separate words.

Operators Of course, you can use operators like and, or, and not to focus your search. For instance, the search,

"domestic violence" AND "sexual assault" NOT drug

will find only those documents that include the phrase domestic violence and the word rape, but will exclude any documents containing the word drug. You can also use more complicated operators (near, near/n, paragraph, sentence) to really focus your search. However, if you use one of these more powerful search criteria, make sure to enclose the operator in angle brackets.

Parentheticals Parentheses give you the ability to control how CAVNET logically processes your search request. For instance,

(religion and drug) or "domestic violence"

will find documents that include the phrase domestic violence PLUS all the documents containing both the words rape and drug.

Wildcards The asterisk symbol (*) can be used at the end of a search word to tell CAVNET to search for words with the same stem. For instance,

auto*

will find auto, and automobile.
